Bubble Study No.1 – Original Hand-Embroidered B&W Film Artwork
The Story Behind the Work
The subject: Tucked beneath a sprawling tree, I stumbled upon a bathtub completely out of place in the undergrowth a sight so random I had to photograph it.
Captured on a Vintage 1960s Half-Frame: Shot on a newly acquired Canon Demi, a classic 1960s half-frame camera that brings a lovely vintage charm and unique framing to the shot.
Return to Black & White: This was my first time shooting on black and white film since experimenting with pinhole cameras back in 2007!
Playful Hand-Stitched Bubbles: To lean into the dreamlike quality of a bath in the woods, I hand-embroidered delicate, colourful bubbles floating off the photograph and onto the canvas, bridging the gap between flat image and tactile textile art.
One-of-a-Kind Narrative: Blending documentary-style analog photography with playful embroidery, this piece turns an unexpected real-world find into a story full of curiosity and wonder.
